BENTONITE::KAR-YBEN
It is
difficult to procure large amount of natural bentonit with a convenient
price because of limited reserve in the world and in our country.
Because of that, some additives are added to the low grade calcium baset
bentonite, to get, desired properties. These treated bentonites known as
bentonite in the market.

PROPERTIES
Our
company is very sensitive when gets these type of bentonite orders. We
make minimum the known disadvantages by adding 01- 05 % (by weight)
special polimer, to the bentonite. Such a yielded / treated bentonite,
of our company called KAR-YBEN and is conforming to TS 977 type 1. or
API bentonite of which Specification giving below.

APPLICATION
Treated bentonite, KAR-YBEN, is used as natural bentonite
KAR-BEN for preparing drilling fluids only. But it is very important to
know what kind and how much addtive is there in the treated bentonite.
KAR-YBEN is being prepared by adding very few (0,1-0,5 %) special
polymer to the low grade bentonite.
3.
PACKING
50 kg
multilayer paper bags, and 1000 kg big-bags available. The bentonite
KAR-YBEN is dry, and, easily flowable grinded form.
DISADVANTAGES OF THE TREATED BENTONITES;
*
There are two methods to increase the quality of the bentonites, (1) ion
exchange (2) adding chemicals. If it is well washed after prosessing,
first method is ok. But additives, especialiy polymeric additives can
cause unexpected problems.
*
At
least it’s impossible to get good quality with treated bentonites as
natural bentonites .Under tough drilling conditions, (high
temperature, presence of bivalent cations, bacterial activity etc.) the
treated bentonite can show an unexpected deterioration in quality owing
to polymer break down, or incompatibiliy with the mud chemicals or
formation materials.This, also causes excess chemical treatment usage
which means drilling problems and more money.
* Another
problem in using treated bentonite is to exceed the treating rate.
Additives are usefull up to a critical point. But after this point they
are unwill and may be dangerous.
* In a
mud system, if an extended bentonite is used together with a polymer
similar to the extender; the optimum consentration will be surpassed
resulting a significant reductýon (as happens to KCL/polyacrylamide mud)
*Another problem is unwanted flocculations. Natural bentonite, Sodium
montmorillonite, KAR-BEN is so strongly hydrated that does not cause
distinct flocculations.Addition of treated bentonite adding to cement
cause detrimental increase in viscosity
* If
soda ash is used as an extender, soda ash interferes to the circulatýon
water and increases its salinity ratio. This causes a negative effect in
making filter cake of the mud
