NATURAL BENTONITE::KAR-BEN
PROPERTIES
The
natural bentonite, KAR-BEN is pure, natural sodium based nontreated one,
contains 90 % of Montmorillonite, has a high swelling capacity,
conforms to API 13 A nontreated Bentonite and TS 977-1993 Type – 2
bentonite’s specification.In water suspansion The natural bentonite
KAR-BEN is dispersed not flocculate. KAR-BEN has the certificate of
conformance to TS 977, given by Turkish Standards Ưnstitution.The
specific properties are given below.

APPLICATIONS
a) For Drilling Fluids;
* Due
to its good viscosity and jel forming properties helps to keep in
suspention the weighting agents.
* Natural
bentonite KAR-BEN makes good well cleaning by keeping low the slip
velocity of cuttings.
* With
its high quality and smooth filtercake maintains perfect well stability,
*
Because of KAR-BEN ’s slipperiness property makes good lubrication at
the bit and the drill strings
b) For Underground workings;
Only
natural bentonite, is permitted to add the cement slury for diaphram
walls,njection applications, pipe jackings, pipe landings and tunnel
works.
It’s very dangerous to use treated bentonit for this purpose, because of
high viscosity handling will be very dilfucult.
* For
injections and for under ground wall constractions; slurry trench is
applied and obtained a sufficient impermeability with a low price
* Highly
viscous slurry can be prepared with a small amount of the natural
bentonite, KAR-BEN.
* KAR-BEN
has an extremely high swelling capacity. Its aqueous suspensions have
such a high viscosity that, to the value of 40 marsh /sec which
normally used for diaphragm walls and similar applications is reached
after a swelling time of maximum 2 hours with 45-50 kg/m3
KAR-BEN natural bentonite suspensions.
c)
For constractions;
* To
constract impermeable cut off walls.
* To
constract impermeable bulding walls.
* Natural
bentonite, KAR-BEN is being used to constract, building walls resistant
to load.
ADVANTAGES
* When
added to cement mixtures, it suspends the sand in the period of mixing
and injection and balances the stability of mixture. Natural bentonite,
KAR-BEN lower the seperation of the water to minimum in the slurry.
*
Natural bentonite, KAR-BEN – cement slurry mixture, increases the
penetration in to the fine granuled allivium and avoids the lost of
cement. Natural bentonite, KAR-BEN- cement mixture flows as a fase and
prizes homogeneously and becomes very hard. It resists to the chemical
and underground water effects.
*
When an aqueous suspension prepared with 6 %, natural bentonite,
KAR-BEN is injected to a wet sand its resistance increases.
*
Mixtures of natural bentonite, KAR-BEN do not be effected by sulfate
salts. It is recommended to be used natural bentonite, KAR-BEN together
with phosphates or silicates if the underground water has salt or lime.
*
Adding 5 % sodium silicate in to the suspansions, jelling begins with a
rised speed.
*
Chemicals added natural bentonite, KAR-BEN / cement and water slurries;
can be used for injection of alliviums with permeabilities under 10
–1 cm/sec.
* The
naturel bentonite , KAR-BEN is being used as a lubricant to plunge the
pantoons and to drive in piles. It reduses rubbings.
* To plug
the cracks on the walls constructed to stop the water leakages, 1/1
natural bentonite KAR-BEN/ water mixture is used by rolling up with
trowel and then coating with tar.
* A
mixture prepared by adding neutral liquids, (like karosene) to the
natural bentonite KAR-BEN- sand , is used to fill the cracks. The
mixture can make a thick-strong jell when contacts with water.
* To plug
very thin cracks, it is recommended to prepare a mixture with 5 % of
natural bentonite, KAR-BEN and pump it in to the crack with a special
injector.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
*
While preparing cement suspensions, natural bentonite KAR-BEN must be
mixed to water first and at least after two hours cement be added.
* It is
recommended to add %0,5 Sodium phosphate or %5 sodium silicate to the
cement suspensions, depending to the heat of the used water.
* It is
more effective and economic to get ready enough natural bentonite
KAR-BEN suspension at the beginning of the job
3. PACKING
50 kg multilayer
paper bags, and 1000 kg big-bags available. The naturel bentonite
KAR-BEN is dry and, easily flowable grinded form.
